The pledge to our New Mexico flag

Who knew we had a state pledge to the flag in New Mexico?

I have live here for 2 1/2 years now and just learned this last week.

Anyway ~~ here it is:

“I salute the flag of the State of New Mexico and the Zia symbol of perfect friendship among united cultures.”

Years back someone tried to sue the NM government saying that the zia symbol was for Indians and could not be used by NM. I guess it didn't work out.

Yup. I say it every morning with the kiddos at school right after the pledge to the American flag. The 4th graders go a step further and say it in Spanish after they say it in English. And, it was written by a few UDC (United Daughters of the Confederacy) womem in Portales.

We use to recite this in 3rd grade with our hands held out with only four fingers showing so it looks like the lines on the flag. I totally forgot how it went so thank you for reminding me :D.
