Two-Steppin' in Eldorado

Last Saturday night was the Chuckwagon BBQ and western party put on as a fundraiser by the Vista Grande Public Library here in Eldorado. The event was held in the library parking lot, and the turnout was much larger than expected. There were over 100 people there.

Great food -- pulled pork, barbecued chicken, red and green enchiladas, pinto beans, cole slaw and brownie sundaes for dessert, country music played by a deejay, horse rides for the kids, and western dancing lessons -- it was an evening of fun and getting to know our Eldorado neighbors.

Eldorado always has good parties!

Four months at La Casa Towanda

It's been four months today since we arrived at our new home in Eldorado. Been quite a summer!

Getting the house settled, watching our garden bloom, getting acquainted with the library here in Eldorado, enjoying nightly sunsets behind the Jemez Mountains, taking some drives around the area to see the sights, many trips into Santa Fe for errands, doctors appointments, meals at some great restaurants, and that weeklong stay at St. Vincent's in August.

We love it here! It's everything we hoped it would be. And now that summer is winding down, we look forward to the fall -- cooler days and nights, the golden quaking aspens up on the mountain, chamisa in bloom everywhere with that wonderful fragrance, the aroma of roasting chile all over town, chile ristras for sale at the farmer's market and shops in Santa Fe, the smell of wood fires in neighboring homes, and soon ... our first fire in our fireplace.

Eating Ice Cream in Eldorado

The big event of the year here in Eldorado is the Ice Cream Social every August to benefit our Vista Grande Public Library.

It's a wonderful event: ice cream, music, more ice cream, a raffle and an auction, ice cream, lots of activities for the kids ... and ICE CREAM. I have always wanted to go to the ice cream social and this year was going to be my first chance. My illness made us think it over for a few days, but we ended up going for a couple of hours. I am still weak, but it was pleasant sitting in the shade and eating ice cream.

The picture is of a marimba band that played and was REALLY talented. Imagine listening to marimbas in Northern New Mexico!
