My cousin Tiffany back in New York just had her first baby, a little boy she named Preston. I got this baby afghan for him finished just in in the nick of time, as he decided to arrive several weeks early:

More scarves and hats off to Zuni

I didn't get too much knitting done in the past year for my friend Bonnie who teaches out at the Zuni pueblo, but I packed up and mailed off to her the few things I got made this past year. My goal for next year is to complete at least twice as many items!

Tierra Wools

Some years ago, on a trip to New Mexico (partially house-hunting, partially sight-seeing) we drove up to Los Ojos, NM - way up north of Abiquiu in very rural somewhat desolate country.

In Los Ojos, there is quite a wonderful place called Tierra Wools, where yarn is made from the wool of local churro sheep. In the Tierra Wools store, craftspeople spin the wool, hand dye it, and weave it. There is a retail store where you can buy yarn for weaving or knitting, and they have weavers there demonstrating their craft.

It is a delightful place for a knitter or a weaver. The Tierra Wool yarn is expensive, but it is a New Mexico craft product, so I bought several skeins of it, and took it home to Kansas with me. I put it in my bin of yarn and forgot about it.

I got out the three skeins of yarn the other night, and decided to make something with it. I picked out a very simple scarf pattern, and I shall make myself a scarf made of Churro sheep wool from Los Ojos, New Mexico.

Knitting for Zuni

Most of my knitting in the past months has been for my new grandson, Alessandro.

But I did manage to sqeeeze in a little time to knit a few winter hats and scarves to send off to my friend Bonnie at the Zuni Pueblo to give to anyone out there who needs some extra warm winter things.

I am going to get them into the mail Monday morning.

My goal for next winter is to get twice as many done.

Rejoicing over good news

We heard not too long ago that we are going to have another grandchild at the beginning of December. Then just several days ago my daughter had a sonogram and the baby is a BOY. A healthy boy, progressing normally.

So -- this will be the first male grandchild, Victoria is going to have a baby brother and is thrilled, and here in Santa Fe, I will be busy doing some knitting projects in the next five months!

Knitting projects

There are always knitting projects going on in my life. Sweaters for Knit for Kids, hats and scarves for my friend Bonnie to give to children on the Zuni Reservation where she works, afghans in various stages of progress, baby things for present and future grandchildren and nieces and nephews, etc.

I don't knit anything fancy; I just knit to pass the time and for gifts for family and friends, for charity and to keep the arthritis in my hands at bay. I enjoy the projects I am working on, and I am always looking forward to the next item, the next pattern, the next yarn color.

The above hat and scarf are my latest finished items; they are going into the box I will send to Zuni, NM next fall.

Christmas knitting is done

I have been busy this fall knitting simple scarves for Christmas gifts.

The pattern is so easy I can knit while I watch TV in the evenings. I have made five scarves, and these two are my last ones.

I hope for once my daughter is too busy to look at my blog, or she will see one of her Christmas presents!
