End of a snowy icy month

January has been quite a weather month here, with a number of wintery days that brought us a lot of snow accumulation, a dramatic view of our mountains, and ice forming on our canales and trees.

John and I are snow-loving people. We cannot resist grabbing our cameras and heading outside after a snowstorm. John got these pictures yesterday around our house and yard:

The Whole Hog Cafe

By Santa Fe standards, the Whole Hog Cafe on Cerrillos Road is the best place in the city for barbecue.

We eat there quite often, because we have so many tea party and Center Right Coalition meetings there...and maybe the best part about the meetings is getting a plate of good barbecue.

Bo the owner and Manuel my favorite waiter there are really good to their customers, and the pulled pork is awesome and tender. They have a variety of sauces to put on your barbecue, even a couple that taste pretty similar to Kansas and Texas.

Two thumbs up for barbecue, Santa Fe style!

Cactus in the Snow

Snowy morning here at our house. We must have had at least 6 inches and it is still snowing as I type this.

I went out and walked around our property in the falling snow a little while ago. It's fun to see cactus covered in snow - such is the weather in our high desert area.

And some yucca plants behind our house.

The Sangre de Cristo Mountains today

We had snow for nearly the entire past week, and the cloud cover on top of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains never lifted until yesterday. Then we could see how much snow the highest elevations in our area got during those snow days.

We took these pictures today from a high point in the northern part of Santa Fe.

Wintry week

Our winter weather continues as this week goes on.

We've had some snow every day, with more in the forecast.

Here are a few pictures I have taken at our house:

And this picture was taken yesterday morning at Avenida Vista Grande and Hwy 285 in Eldorado:

Our snowy day

We woke up this morning to a lot of snow on the ground, and more falling all morning.

It was very pretty - our first big snowfall of the new year.

The dogs loved burrowing in it and leaping around the yard.

John measured 8 inches at midmorning, and then it snowed more after that.

And tomorrow we are supposed to get more!
