Visitor in our front yard

We have about 6 hummingbirds that hang around our feeders outside the dining room window. They are quite fun to watch, and have been entertaining us a lot lately. They can be a devilish bunch, hogging the feeders and chasing other arrivals away, squawking at one another.

Here's one John photographed this morning.

Hummingbirds are just too cool for school. I can watch 'em for HOURS... when I have the opportunity.

I forgot I took some pics on July 4th at our feeder... I'll have to post some too. I LOVE them. We have a mimosa tree by the feeder and there seems to be dozens flitting around but I think we have 6-7... ornery! And they certainly let me know when the feeder is empty!

Great photos!

Some years I had a feeder (another place, another life) and a cat who made his way to the top of patio wall just a couple of feet from the feeder. He seemed to know when the hummers would be arriving to eat and perched himself on the wall. And that's what he did. Perched there with no interest in eating them. He was fascinated with the hummers and did not look on them as prey, but great entertainment for him. Oh, yeah, he was also the greatest cat who ever deigned to live with me. But that's another story.

Buck - do you have a feeder at your casa? If not, then you need one for happy hour entertainment!

Soggy - Looking forward to your hummingbird pictures!

Cat - that is just the coolest story!!! I thought your cat was hunting...and it turns out he was as captivated as we are. I love that...
