"I think that New Mexico was the greatest experience from the outside world that I ever had.
It certainly changed me forever ... The moment I saw the brilliant proud morning (sun) shine high up over the deserts of Santa Fe,
something stood still in my soul."

The little church on La Manga Trail
I am not sure what town this little church is in.
It's just off the county road between Las Vegas, New Mexico and Pecos.
I love cemeteries -- they are the most decorative history lessons! Looks like all or most graves are covered by a slab. Do you know why? Is it neccessity or custom?
I agree with Laurel... cemeteries ARE history lessons. I always made it a point to visit old church-yard grave sites while in Europe. Always. That habit has carried over to life in NM, as well.
I love to seek out the little churches here in New Mexico, and so many of them have graveyards right on the premises surrounding the church. However, I have noticed all of them are surrounded by fences or walls and gates, and you can't go in and wander around and look at the gravestones. I guess it is to protect against vandalism.

Laurel, John and I were wondering that same thing about the concrete slabs over the graves. I am going to try and find out what I can about that.
