Just out of curiosity... were there any heirloom tomatoes? I grew several varieties of heirlooms in the way-back and they really ARE quite tasty. Homegrown tomatoes... homegrown anything, actually... beat the living stuffing out of store-bought. There are some aspects of a traditional life I DO miss...

Yes, I did see some heirloom tomatoes -- someday I will splurge and buy some -- they are more expensive than the regular garden tomatoes.

Does Portales have a farmer's market? You could get some of this fresh produce without having to grow your own.

My favorite farmer's market stuff is tomatoes, sweet bell peppers (sometimes hard to find in NM) and corn. There is a guy at the Santa Fe Farmer's market who has sweet corn that is pretty good. He's from Moriarty.

WOW! I love the farmer's market here in KC but as interesting as it is, your's in NM looks way cooler! I'm ashamed to say I have not been this year and I work within walking distance (now that I can walk 1 mile round trip!).

Yep. I need to find out what the schedule is, though. I'm pretty sure it's not weekly. But it could be, LOL. I'm just so ignorant about local stuff that it's almost a crime.

I love a good farm market. Years ago, we loved to do the Dallas Farmer's market on Saturday mornings.

Today I saw a NM license plate that said "LAWANDA." I did a double take thinking it said "TOWANDA."
