Taos, New Mexico

Taos is a wonderful town - spectacular mountain setting, adobe architecture, lots of shops and restaurants, a great little plaza, good shopping, etc. We don't get up there as often as I would like.

The following pictures are a combination of ones taken by John and I during our visit to Taos this past week:

THIS WAS TAKEN ON THE LOW ROAD TO TAOS ALONG THE RIO GRANDE:

MICHAEL'S KITCHEN, WHICH WAS SO GOOD WE ATE THERE TWICE IN TWO DAYS:

SCENES AT TAOS PLAZA:

A COUPLE OTHER TAOS SCENES:

I recently googled for an image of Taos mountain similar to your last photo. I love the gree pastures and the fences that divide the land in so many odd ways. Then there is that mountain in the background - forever etched in my memory.

Thry eating a big breadfast burrito at Monte's Chow Cart sometime - pretty darn good.

Lou, I thought you would enjoy these pictures of your old stompin' ground. I thought of you a lot when we were up there.

We didn't go to the Taos Pueblo - it was closed the evening we had time to drive out there -- but from the front entrance it seemed like it is looking even shabbier than I remember it.

We did spend an hour at Taos Casino - I like it because it is smaller and friendlier than the big casinos. I lost $2 playing penny slots and John lost $10 on the video poker game. It was great fun for us "big gamblers". LOL

Thanks for the tip about Monte's Chow Cart - I remember passing it several times - next time we are up in Taos we will check it out.

I take it these pics were early in the day. I drove up to Red River for the wine fest and it was overcast/rainy all afternoon and evening. Must be something to the Enchanted loop; after the chilly rain on the last day of spring, Summer Solstice was bright clear and sunny. It was simply amazing. Stayed at la Fonda Friday and Saturday, saw Easy Rider at the Storyteller cinema; after the Solstice celebration on Sunday headed south for the trip home (along Route 66).
Did you happen to see a red (Pontiac) Solstice with Illinois plates? That would be me :>)
