Palisades Sill, Cimarron, New Mexico

The Palisades Sill is an incredible outcropping of rock forming tall cliffs called palisades, located between Eagle Nest and Cimarron, New Mexico.

We tried to get pictures that would show the spectacular scenery, but it was difficult to do the place justice in our photography.

The Palisades have been fascinating me since I was a child. As we traveled to RR every summer when we go to Cimarron Canyon, my brothers and I would roll the windows down in the car and say "Smell the mountains!" Dad would pull over and let us out at the Palisades.

The first time we drove out of Cimarron and through the canyon, and rounded a bend, and there were those palisades, we were amazed. This time through the area we have better cameras and it was possible to get better pictures. You're right -- you can smell the mountains and it is a heady experience, isn't it?

Wow - just breathtaking. Love that cornflower-blue sky too - we haven't seen that in New England in over a month!

We just made the trip past the Palisades and I somehow managed to not get a photo. I would like to borrow a couple of yours for my blog. Thank you.
